The Shalamov Museum

The Shalamov Museum is located in the building where Shalamov was born, in the city of Vologda. The Museum was founded and run by Marina Vorono of the Vologda Art Gallery until her tragic death in 2005.

Located on the banks of the Vologda River where Shalamov spent his childhood, the Museum collection includes original photographs, some of Shalamov's personal belongings, a variety of research materials relating to Shalamov, a collection of publications of Kolyma Tales in different languages, and an exhibit in Shalamov's memory. The Museum also hosts a gathering ("Shalamovsky den") twice a year: on the occasion of Shalamov's birth (June 18) and in memory of his passing (January 17). These events include papers on Shalamov's life and works, as well as musical and theatrical performances of his poetry and prose.
